You are picking some classic moments from ON THE BUSES.
keep them coming in. DING DING
The scene from on the buses that allways springs in my mind is when the lion gets onto the bus. The scene was brilliantly made and the expression on Stans face was one of the funniest things I have ever seen. ROBERT
Hello to all On the buses fans. My favourite episode is the L bus when Arthur and Olive's bed broke.
Sad to hear about Anna Karen's husbands Terry's death.
I like On the Buses because I work on the buses myself.

Hello. to all the on the buses fans worldwide i just bought the complete series of the on the dvd boxset i just cannot stop laughing Arthur keeps calling olive a great lump mother says poor little olive the favourite moment is on the buses the spin off film little arthur poups intoarthurs hat then he picks it up he says i kill him and stan says wear it and it will make your hair grow they just dont make comedy like that these days.
Stefan from East Anglia
For me the entire episode of foggy night is my favourite when olive has to go the toilet in the bushes using her mums knitting as a guide back to the bus. all the shows are good but this one stands out the most to me.
Steve from Stafford.
My favorite moment has to be the Radio Control. Jack messed about with the circuits & Blakey ended up talking to a pilot!!! Sheer brilliance!!
Wendy from Colchester Essex
hi just started watching the films and episodes again, holiday on the buses, just has jacks attitude to a key in certain areas, like the row in stans home at the start, and jack says you couldn,t go away and leave your lovely home, and stan says,"but ill force myself" and taking the short cut in the bus tour which involved going under the trees, claing it was a mystery tour.
bob grantyour sorely missed
great memories gary comber northern ireland
One of my fav moments, was the one where they were putting trousers on stan and he was across the table it was so funny , Linda Barratt.

what about the new uniforms, when stan is pretending to be a baby being fed by blakey, with his spaghettiam i the only one who creases when he see s this.
ronnie duncan
Has to be The Anniversary in series 4 where Blakey ends up eating dog biscuits and actually liking them. The look on his face when he realises is priceless, then of course he says,"I ate you Butler"

my favourite bit is when inspector blake get's blown up when he leave's on the tv set he bought from stan and end's up in the bookcase with a lot of slinter's in his rear end from georgette in buckie scotland

My family and I have been fans for many years, we have the complete set , after watching series 7 last evening, my wife wondered what ever became of Anna Karen, she was wonderful, my daughters loved Stephen Lewis and Doris Hare, they couldn't have picked a better casting call, and they did it bang on.

To this day, when things are not well in this crazy world, we can for a few hours look into the Butler household and have a nice cup of tea, smile, and laugh, and remember when Arthur tried to take Mom and Olive out to the country on the motorcycle and side car only to have it fall apart, we wish to thank all you for keeping there names in the forefront of British Comedy.

Yours Truely
Jim and Barb

I Have just started watching the shows again on 'Men and Motors'. It has
been so nice to watch the shows again after 30 odd years. It reminds me
of when I was a kid and my nan used to let me watch the show on a friday
night when she was babysitting. We laughed then and I laugh now, I love the
fact that when the actors stumbled over a line they recovered and yet it was
still kept in.

My favourite moment so far ( I have not seen them all yet ) is when Blakey
is stuck in the motorbike side car, absolutely priceless.

Got to go, I have six episodes on skyplus to catch up with!!

Hello all you fans of On The Buses.

My favourite clip has to be from the episode titled "The Cistern", when Stan, his Mum, Olive & Arthur go and choose a new toilet. They all enter the shop & his Mum spots one that she likes the look of and gets very excited about the look of it, that's until she finds out that it's made of plastic. She says that she doesn't want a plastic one because plastic ones catch fire. The humour for me comes from how Stan's Mum speaks about this particular toilet.

Actually its a tough one picking a favourite moment Steve. The films I'm inclined to discount as they lacked the punch of the short episodes (enjoyable as they are). The fact is, it was a first rate cast and it shows. Doris Hare clearly had a good grounding in theatre and easily the most convincing character - beautifully naive but only up to a point. Her family meant everything to her. Stan and Olive were her babies - she adored them. Wonderful scene where she defends her family against Blakey's niece. It reminded me of my great grandmother (know to us as 'Mam) who would have risen to her feet like that!.

Reg Varney, master of timing and expressions to the point of totally astonishing (and you can tell him that). Michael Robbins, incredible voice, limited lines but always punchy and memorable. A square peg in a round hole - almost out of place in that family unit. Always thought of himself as more educated, more intelligent yet stuck in a world of pools coupons and Olives curlers.

Oh and love is surely blind for Mum to adore her 'lovely Olive' who was thick beyond belief and gross to boot (first rate character by Anna Karen). That said you get the impression that Reg also thought much of Olive (rarely insulted her compared to Arthur's cutting jipes) and probably spent much of his childhood rescuing her. Heaven knows what the late Mr Butler was like. We can only speculate...

Yup, the scene with the photo of Blakey's sister has to be high on the list of comic scenes, compounded by the fact that the cast must have been in absolute hysterics when they first saw that photo anyway! Makes it even funnier.

For sheer spookiness, the bus on fire. Who decided to treat that scene the way they did but it was far removed from the light comedy we know and love. And how did they film it Crane Helicopter Very odd moment either way. My partner and I both looked at each other when we saw that - most spooky.

Perhaps a close second is Blakey dragging out the breathalizer scene, Stan's lungs full of Jack's cigarette smoke and just as Stan thinks he can do the test, Blakey misses the mark on his watch. Again, beautiful timing (on both their parts) and its at times like that you realise what a genius Reg Varney really is and comparable to absolutely no one - a one off.

There have been few instances where good writers and a strong cast have produced a real classic like this. Dad's Army perhaps but we all know them inside out now and they were of a much more sedate pace. On The Buses was fast and theres a comic nugget almost every third line. We could also relate to these people or at least knew people like them. There are certainly many Blakey's in this world, even more Olives and we are all the more richer for the Stan and Jacks we bump into in our daily lives. Certainly On The Buses is part of OUR past too - a time that is no more and it will continue to be enjoyed for the next 100 years, something the cast probably never envisaged.

Sexist Certainly. But with political correctness a worse solution than what we had and comedy severely hampered by it, it does not offend me in the slightest - not one little bit. What DOES offend me is we now have an enforced rule that has no regard for the fact that I am intelligent enough to know when some things are inappropriate to say - that really IS insulting.

One things for sure, this was a class act. The rubbish being churned out of the 'Carry On' machine during this period (with the exception of 'Carry On Screaming') was no match for On The Buses - no match at all. On the Buses had no padding. It was well written, well cast and is STILL hilarious.I am very sorry to hear that Michael Robbins, and Bob Grant (tragically) are no onger with us... That said, Reg Varney, Anna Karen and Stphen Lewis are SUPERUB actors. Damn!! They always hand me a laugh!! Best episode, in my opinon, "Brew It Yourself"; wherein Stan makes his own beer. Nearly wet myself laughing!!!! Love that British "dry humour"... Oliver

My favourite moments for "On the buses" 1. GOING STEADY - When Stan has told Blakey him and Sally want to get married and Stan says ".. besides Ill make a very good husband" and Blakey replies "You What sort of husband will you make It took you 5 years to learn how to changes the gears in a bus!!!" 2. HOLIDAY ON THE BUSES - At the end when Olive is trying to get Arthurs attention whilst hes drivin "Arthur look, its over there Arthur, look Arthur..!" so he stops suddenly stops and more cases go flying off the bridge "You stupid great lump look what you made me do, what were you trying to tell me" and she just comes out with "I was only trying to tell you that there is where we lost our luggage on the way here!!!!" 3. BOXING DAY SOCIAL - When there at the dance Olive says " Come on Arthur lets dance, its Christmas" and Arthur just comes out with " No thank you!!" and Olive replies " Well I cant dance on my own!" and this bit makes me laugh when Arthur says back "Your not on your own are you, you've got a turkey leg in one hand and a gurkin in another so shut up!!!!" I love On the buses so so much!! I can never stop thanking my Dad for getting me into it!!!!! Adam Bennett, Birmingham, UK!

The new uniforms and the 'airline pillotts' but the episode is hilarious from start to finish, especially the measuring the sausages someone else mentioned.

But near the end Stan and Jack have been kidding on a couple of Scandanavian burdz they are airline pilots because the girls think that is what the new uniforms mean when they are in a cafe - again after leaving the canteen because of Blakey fussing about the new clothes. Stan and Jack had earlier been taking the P by pretending to be models.

But at the end Blakey for once gets his own back. After laughing his head off at the boys pretending to be 'airline pillotts'.

He says to Stan something like: "Air line pilots. What have you been telling these girls Butler. Airline pillott, he can't even drive a number 11 bus to the Cemetery Gates and back.

"Well Captain Butler you had better get in your cockpit, taxi down the runway and set course for the Cemetery Gates."

Simon (Helensburgh)

My two favourite moments are:

The guys watching the football on the telly at Blakeys place in the New Telly, and...

Arthur stepping on the broken eggs after the boys batchelor party in the Best Man.

On both occasions Michael Robbins noticeably loses it, but somehow manages to recover like the true professional he obviously was. Frankly it's surprising how they all kept straight faces half the time!

At last all seven series of this wonderful comedy will be available to buy. There are so many funny episodes, but my favourite episode has to be 'Mums Last Fling'. I can't name a particular part of the episode which is funniest because from beginning to end this has me in stitches. Anybody who has never seen on the buses before should watch this episode first, and they will surely want to watch more.

WHEN JACK SHOWS STAN AN ADVERT FOR DRIVERS AT PONTIN`S HOLIDAY CAMP. AT THAT MOMENT ARTHUR AND OLIVE`S LITTLE HORROR SQUIRTS WATER ON

ARTHUR,AND EVERYONE STARTS SHOUTING. STAN SHOWS HIS MUM THE ADVERT,AND SHE SAYS IN THAT SCREECHING VOICE OF HERS,"OH STAN! YOU CAN`T GO ALL THAT WAY AND LEAVE YOUR LOVELY FAMILY". JACK SAYS,"I RECKON YOUR MUM`S RIGHT. YOU COULDN`T LEAVE YOUR LOVELY FAMILY". REG SAYS,"NO, BUT I`LL FORCE MYSELF".

From David Anthony I grew up in the 70s when on the buses was on everyone had to be quiet even the budgie we liked every episode including the one the new uniform which a couple of swedish stewardeses said to jack and stan you are a couple of pillots my grandad was always doing mimicking blakey and liked doris hare he claims he met her in the second world war in the armed forces and my father adopted arthurs catchphrase you clumsy great nit it was a great sitcom of the 70s they just can not make comedy like that anymore and my dear mother has been secretly collecting on the buses on tape for me your no.1 on the buses fan. Steffan from Suffolk Norfolk boarder.

Hi!

Just like to say that i've been searching for a site that has one of my favourite comedy shows of all time, despite what critics say about it!!!!!!!

Anyhow, favourite moment has to be the episode THE NEW UNIFORMS, when arthur starts to loose his rag re. getting small "sausages" while stan gets out olives tape measurer to check....just bloody funny & that scene is full of double entendres....just class!

Thanks again!

I like when Jack and Stan chat up the swedish birds in 'The new uniforms'...a classic episode! I also like the bit where Jack pulls the girl Stan had taken on the ferry in 'Holiday on the buses' Phil Urmston Manchester

The moment when Arthur pushed Olive into the swimming pool and she lost her bikini bottom. This kept me and my sisters laughing for hours when we were about 10. Now I'm 28 it's still as funny!!

Rachel Parsonage

Hi - one of my favorite moments is in the episode where Stan is engaged to Blakey's niece....and Stan, Mum, Olive and Arthur at home discussing it when mum says how upset she is to see the last her little chicks leave the nest (referring to Stan).....and Arthur replies, "little chicks.....more like a clapped-out old rooster." HILARIOUS!!!

Georgia in Washington DC, USA

The foggy night episode

The bit where Stan and Jack are throwing peanuts into Blakeys open mouth whilst he has nodded of , the other favorite clip is where Stan and Jack are asked by blakey to take a photo of him in front of a bus so he can send it to his sister, of course there just happens to be an advertisement for a local Dracula production and yes, Stan and jack get blakeys face just in the right position ,and as a finishing touch they get him to bare his teeth accordingly, and not forgetting when blakey confiscates some "top shelf"mags of jack and puts them under his Mac, only for them to fall out onto the floor in the startled presence of a couple of young clippies who exclaim "mr blake " in unison , another good one is when stan is asked to dress in drag and sing to the kids in the canteen, and not forgetting the "bell" on the pram they had refurbished in the depot.

My favourite moment I think (there are so many) is from HOLIDAY ON THE BUSES.
On the mystery trip, Stan rounds up the passsengers ealry so he can get back to the holiday camp for a hot date. a row breaks out between stan and an off duty blakey. blakeys girlfriend says :

'come on Cyril, we'll go upstairs, you get a better view from up there'

as she walks up the staircase, jack can see right up her skirt - he turns to blakey and says:

'you dont get a bad view from down here!!'

'Oh you lecherous moron' replies blakey - just before copping an eyeful himself!!
its hilarious and no matter how many times i see it it makes me smile

i love all three of the spin off movies. an amazing show.

cheers

Gregory

even after watching it a thousand and more times i love the bit when stan and arthur have to share a bed because aunt maud's staying, also the bit when blakey teaches self defense and stan gets a pounding from a woman clippie who' s an expert,i could go on for ever there's so many great timeless moments.i'm only 33 years old but i just cant get enough of watching the lads (especialy blakey who can make me laugh by just doing nothing)

AND ALSO IN "BREW IT YOURSELF" WHERE MUM IS DRUNK........AND STAN TELLS BLAKEY HE'S NOT AFRAID OF THE BELEFELIZER......(BREATHALIZER) ......SO SAD THAT ITS ALL ENDED....I LOVE THESE GUYS.

LYNNE FROM AUSTRALIA

Where does one start

1. Arthur throws petrol down the holiday camp loo, followed very subtly by Stan's discarded cigarette end. The drains blow-up in Blakey's face, which he declared was due to "an over-accumulation of marsh-gas! 2. Olive is being rushed to Maternity Hospital in a motorbike sidecar which becomes detached. 3. Blakey is waiting for a bus near a large puddle of water. He retreats back as a bus ploughs through the puddle & is very chuffed at his avoiding a soaking. He stands kerbside to flag down Stan's bus which (you've guessed)! "I hate yous-two morons!"

From Lee

My favourite moments are:

1. Olive gets drunk at the Boxing Day Social and is dancing with Arthur

Without a doubt, the funniest moment for me is when Blakie produces that photo of his sister and the comment by Doris Hare "Fine figure of a woman" is an absolute gem! Gets me everytime
